Report a concern
Raise a concern about a Cadet's welfare, including when the concern is about someone in your own unit.
If a Cadet is in immediate danger
Call 911. These pages are not monitored around the clock and a report may not be read for some time.
Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline and the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline are both staffed 24/7.
This page is not monitored around the clock
Reports sent here are read during working hours. If a Cadet is at immediate risk, call 911 first and send the report afterwards. Do not wait for a reply before acting.
Pending review. The handling process described below is our intended practice and has not yet been reviewed by qualified counsel or a safeguarding professional.
Who this is for#
Anyone - a Cadet, a parent or guardian, an instructor, or someone outside the program entirely. You do not need an account, and you do not need to be connected to the unit concerned.
Use this route when
- You are worried about a Cadet’s safety or welfare and the normal route through their instructors is not available or not appropriate.
- The concern is about an instructor, or about someone else who would ordinarily receive the report.
- You have raised it with the unit already and nothing has happened.
- Someone is using this service to harass, impersonate, or gain access to a Cadet’s information.
Use a different route when
- A Cadet is in immediate danger - call 911.
- You have lost access to an account or need a password reset - that is a support matter, not a safeguarding one.
- You want a record corrected or deleted - use the data rights page.
- You have found a security vulnerability - use the responsible disclosure page, which has a safe-harbour commitment attached.
How to report#
Email safeguarding@allcadets.com. There is no form on this page on purpose: this is a static site with nothing behind it to catch a submission, and a form that quietly dropped a report would be worse than no form at all.
What to include
Send what you have. An incomplete report is far better than no report, and you should not delay sending one in order to gather more.
| Include | Why it helps |
|---|---|
| The school and unit name | There are many units and Cadet names repeat across them |
| Who you are worried about | A name, or a description if you do not have one |
| What happened, and when | Plain description, in your own words - dates and times if you have them |
| Whether anyone else knows | Tells us whether the school is already acting |
| How to reach you | Optional - see the section on confidentiality below |
Do not include more of a Cadet’s personal information than the report needs, and do not attach screenshots of a full roster. Send what is relevant to the concern.
If the concern is about your own unit#
The ordinary route for a worry about a Cadet is their instructor. That route is no use when the instructor is the subject of the concern, and a reporting process that offers no alternative is a process that will not be used.
A report sent to safeguarding@allcadets.com does not pass through the unit it concerns. Say in the email that the concern involves an instructor or a member of the unit’s staff, and it will not be discussed with that person as part of establishing the facts.
Note also what we cannot do: we have no authority over school staff. Where a report concerns an adult in a school, the people who can act are the district and the relevant state authority, and serious reports will be directed there.
What happens next#
- The report is acknowledged to the address it came from, if you gave one.
- It is reviewed to work out what kind of concern it is and who needs to know.
- Where it concerns immediate safety, it is directed to the emergency services or the relevant state authority. We will do this whether or not you ask us to.
- Where it concerns conduct at a school, it is directed to that school or district.
- Where it concerns misuse of this service - impersonation, unauthorised access to records - we act on the account directly.
We do not publish a response-time commitment, because we would not be able to hold to one and a target we miss is worse than no target at all. What we will say is that these addresses are checked on working days and that a report is not left unread.
Confidentiality, and its limits#
Your report is handled discreetly and shared only with the people who need it to act. That is not the same as anonymity, and you should read the rest of this section before deciding what to send.
- You may report without giving your name. You will not get an acknowledgement or any follow-up, and we may be unable to act if the report needs a detail only you can supply.
- If you give your name, we will not pass it to the person the concern is about as part of looking into it.
- We cannot promise your identity will never be disclosed. Where a report is referred to the emergency services, a state authority, or a school under a legal obligation, that referral may include who made it.
- A report made in good faith that turns out to be mistaken is not held against the person who made it. Reporting a genuine worry that comes to nothing is the system working correctly.
Other ways to get help#
These are independent of this service, staffed around the clock, and better placed than we are to help in the moment.
